Interview With Robin Storey
What was your inspiration for this suspense novel?
I'd been pondering for some time about what happens when you leave your past behind and start a new life. 'Reinvent yourself' is the buzz phrase.
Is it ever possible to completely divorce yourself from the past, or will it come back to bite you at some point?.
What did you enjoy most about writing this novel?
What I enjoyed most about writing this novel, as I did with An Affair With Danger, Book 1 in the Noir Nights series, is telling a story in short novel form.
Plotting the narrative and revealing characters in 40 000 words takes a lot of skill and the ability to write succinctly, yet evocatively.
You want the reader to be able to immerse themselves in the story, feel empathy for the characters and not feel cheated by the length of the book.
And I enjoy the challenge.
What's next?
More books in the Noir Nights series. I have lots of ideas and characters rattling around in my head; it gets pretty chaotic in there!
The working title of my next book is Obsession. Here's the premise:
A lonely middle-aged man becomes obsessed with a woman and resolves to rescue her from an unhappy love life.
It's dark suspense, with a vein of black humour. I started off writing humour, so it will always be present in some form or other in my books.
