My Office In The Sky
I’ve always dreamed of an office with an ocean view. And in August 2021, my dream came true.
I was the recipient of an artist-in-residence award, part of the Creative Spaces Program run by my local council, Sunshine Coast Regional Council in Queensland, Australia.
This program provides space, opportunity and support for all types of artists of to develop their work, and not only was I lucky enough to be part of this program but I got the creative space that I wanted – at the top of Caloundra Lighthouse.
Needless to say, it’s a decommissioned lighthouse, built in 1968 to replace the original one standing beside it, built in 1896. Here’s more about the history of the lighthouses.
For the next 4 weeks, I climbed the 47 steps to my office in the sky and sat at my desk, with 360 degree views of the ocean in front of me round to the Glasshouse Mountains in the west.
Sometimes it was hard to concentrate on writing with such a magnificent view, but I managed a productive month of writing.
Unfortunately, the other aspects of the artist-in-residence program, such as connecting with the community by giving presentations or workshops and liaising with other writers were not part of this residency, I suspect due to uncertainty around future Covid restrictions.
Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed my dream-come-true for a month!
Online Media Interviews
730 TV APPEARANCE
After Ghostwriting Bob McDermant's life story the book became such a hit (as did Bob) that they featured him on ABC's 730 Show. It was quite an honour to be included in the interview with him. You can get Bob's Book, The Ambo, here.
GET PUBLISHED PODCAST INTERVIEW
In late 2018 I was interviewed by Paul G. Brodie for his Get Published Podcast. The subject was the importance of using book promotion sites.
WOBBLY WOMAN VIDEO INTERVIEW
Author Leeza Baric interviewed me for her Wobbly Woman TV show on Youtube about my memoir Making The Breast Of It - Breast Cancer Stories of Humour and Joy.
I reveal how I found humour in my experience of being treated for breast cancer, and we discuss the role of humour in memoir and how best to incorporate it. As befitting the topic, we also have a lot of laughs.
Speaking Engagements And Appearances
Book signing at the Australian Writers Rock Bookshop in Eumundi markets.
I was so pleased to be able to give an author talk at the Maroochydore local library on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. It was a great day and we had a packed house. I felt very priveleged to be there.
Speaking at the Ampersand Brisbane Writers Festival author session, run by the Fellowship of Australian Writers Queensland (FAWQ).

Promotional Media And Video Trailers
How Not To Commit Murder Press Release
I had a lot of fun creating the video above. I hired a professional voice-over man to read my promotional blurb as if it was a press conference. It was a huge hit on YouTube. The book has since had a complete cover revamp.
